Car QR contact sticker vs the fuel pass QR code
By the Tagwyse team · Last reviewed
The National Fuel Pass QR is a government code for buying fuel: you register at fuelpass.gov.lk and show it at the filling station. A QR contact sticker is a private tag on your windscreen that lets people reach you about your parked car. They have nothing to do with each other, and you need both for different reasons.
The fuel pass QR
Sri Lanka’s fuel pass ties a QR code to your vehicle registration so filling stations can issue fuel. You register online at fuelpass.gov.lk, then show the code at the shed on your phone or as a printed copy. Keep it on your phone or in the glove box: it does its job at the pump, not on the windscreen.
A QR contact sticker
A contact sticker is meant to be seen. It sits inside the windscreen so that someone standing next to your car can scan it when you’re blocking them, your lights are on, a window is open or the car has been hit. They send you an alert from their phone’s browser and never see your number.
Side by side
- Who issues it: the fuel pass comes from the government; a contact sticker comes from a private company such as Tagwyse.
- Who scans it: fuel station staff scan the fuel pass; anyone near your parked car scans a contact sticker.
- What it does: the fuel pass checks your fuel allowance; a contact sticker sends you a message.
- Where it goes: the fuel pass on your phone or a printed copy; a contact sticker inside the windscreen.
Other vehicle QR codes you may hear about
In 2021 the police announced a QR sticker scheme for registered three-wheelers, read by police officers. That is a separate scheme too. A Tagwyse sticker is never an official document: it’s a way for people to reach you.

Questions people ask
- Will a contact sticker get me fuel?
- No. Only the National Fuel Pass QR is accepted at filling stations.
- Can I put both on my windscreen?
- You can, but there’s no need to display the fuel pass. Keep it on your phone or printed in the car, and put only the contact sticker where people can see it.
